magibatalla It's quite remarcable that Vitor Arantes and his fellow band-mates were in their early twenties when they recorded such a mature work. Intrincate compositions unfold naturally thanks to a well-rehearsed ensemble (their dynamics are spot-on!). This record deserves much more attention between contemporary piano lovers, Arantes is the Brazilian Shai Maestro! Favorite track: Bebê.

about

The compositions in Elo, Vitor Arantes' debut, offer an intersection point between Afro-Brazilian rhythms, Jazz and the Classical and Eastern European traditions. A mixture that takes shape in complex layers of rhythm and melody, unusual time signatures and ambiences that fluctuate between contemplative atmospheres and moments of great intensity.

Close to the sensitivity of other contemporary pianists such as Shai Maestro or Tigran Hamasyan, Vitor Arantes achieves a beautiful balance between musicality, virtuosity and experimentation.
